====== How do I begin charging sales tax in a previously untaxed state? ======

These steps were written with the assumption that you were using [[dynamiczip:glossary:statewide_tax_schedule|Statewide Schedules]] for the [[dynamiczip:faq:States Exclude Taxation Faq|previously untaxed state]].

  - Open the [[dynamiczip:windows:DZ State Setup window]] and pull up the state. 
  - Delete the values from the Taxable ID and the Exempt ID fields. 
  - Click the Save button. 
  - Open the [[dynamiczip:windows:DZ Rate and Boundary Import window]]. 
  - If you use a [[dynamiczip:glossary:Group ID]] then you must add this state to it. Alternately, you can [[dynamiczip:faq:import_group_id_single_state_faq|import only this state]] or select the Update All States checkbox.
  - [[dynamiczip:faq:rate_and_boundary_import_checklist|Import the Rate & Boundary Database]] to create the [[dynamiczip:glossary:Zip Code Tax Schedule|Zip Code Tax Schedules]] for this state. 
  - Run the [[dynamiczip:windows:DZ Assign Customer Tax Schedules window|Assign Tax Schedules routine]] to update customer addresses in this state with Zip Code Tax Schedules. 

**IMPORTANT:** These same instructions apply for switching to Zip Code Tax Schedules in a state where a single flat rate has been used.

**NOTE:** During the Assign Tax Schedules process, DynamicZip replaces the statewide Taxable IDs with Zip Code Tax Schedules and the statewide Exempt IDs with [[dynamiczip:glossary:Zip Code Exempt Schedule|Zip Code Exempt Schedules]].
