Minimum and Maximum Taxable Amounts

Some taxes do not apply until a sale or purchase reaches a specified amount which we refer to as the Minimum Taxable Amount.

Likewise some taxes no longer apply after a sale or purchase reaches a specified amount which we refer to as the Maximum Taxable Amount.

Occasionally one authority such as the county will collect tax up to a specified Maximum Taxable Amount at which point a city tax may kick in and collect on everything over that Minimum Taxable Amount.

At the time of this entry (October 18, 2014) the following states have one or more tax schedules that are affected by a minimum and/or maximum tax.

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Florida
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee

This was reexamined May 5, 2015 with the same results.
