A geocode is a numeric representation of a geographic location.

In Build 74.0 DynamicZip uses the FIPS Codes available from the United States Board on Geographic Names as provided by Kamp-Data, Inc. The FIPS Codes are imported from the FipsCodes.txt File. Prior to this build, they were imported from the Rate & Boundary Database.

FIPS Codes are stored in the DZ Geocode Master table. The primary purpose of these records is to resolve multiple spellings of a single place name to its preferred spelling.

A geocode is a combination of FIPS Codes in the following format:

• 1122233333
  • 11 = The state FIPS Code
  • 222 = The county FIPS Code
  • 33333 = The city FIPS Code.
