dynamiczip:glossary:jurisdiction

Jurisdiction

Generally speaking, a jurisdiction is the limits or territory within which authority may be exercised. For our purposes it represents an area with a common set of tax details or alternately a common set tax detail Geocode.

Jurisdiction by Tax Details

DynamicZip defines a Jurisdiction as a unique collection of tax details. In other words, if a transaction has three associated tax details , those three tax details represent a jurisdiction. Every other transaction included in the report that has those three and only those three tax details will be included in that particular jurisdiction.

Jurisdiction by Geocode

Alternately some DynamicZip Tax Reports allow a Jurisdiction to be defined as a unique Geocode This alternate selection is made in the DZ Report Section Options window. With this selection, the Geocodes associated with the tax details determine whether or not a document is included in a particular Jurisdiction.

Jurisdiction Description

Jurisdictions will have as their description “State (County) City” as applicable. If the collection of tax details includes multiple states, counties or cities, the jurisdiction will have the description “Jurisdiction Discrepancy”. It is possible for multiple jurisdictions to have the same description if each has different collection of tax details and you choose to select jurisdiction by tax details.
