FipsCodes.txt File

This KampDatabase file is used to manage the identification and spelling of place names.

The following examples are just that. A lot of cities throughout the country have multiple spellings and/or abbreviations in use.

Examples

ZIP 07676

The current FIPS Code for TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON is 77135. By identifying the FIPS Code and then finding the primary (USPS preferred city name) for that FIPS Code, all 9 of the following spellings will resolve to the preferred spelling of TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON NJ.

This is an example where the ZIPsales Database2) contains both WEST HAMPTON BEACH and WESTHAMPTON BEACH and gives each one a different geocode. These are resolved during the DZ Rate And Boundary Import process to a single city with a single geocode and the USPS preferred spelling.
