How should I set the report section options?

To access the DynamicZip report section options select Reports » DynamicZip and select the desired report option. Then click Modify to open the DZ Report Options window. Click the Primary Sort expansion button to open the DZ Report Section Options window.

Modify the report section options to “clean up” your report. The section options allow you to get just the information you need. The section options allow you to specify which headings and totals to print and which to hide. The section options also allow you to specify whether or not to print the report body which is the most detailed or document specific portion of the report.

Primary sort

The primary sort selection exists to provide you a way to quickly and easily select the most common report section options. Once the primary sort has been selected, you can modify the actual report section options to the point that the primary sort is meaningless. The primary sort is nothing more than an available shortcut.

Detailed report

Selecting or clearing the Detailed report check box will reset the report section options to their default setting for detail or summary based on the current Primary sort.

Selecting this check box will cause the highest level of detail to print on the report. Typically this will give you a separate line on the report for every tax detail on every document. Clear this check box if you do not need this level of detail.

Section 1 through 4

These sections represent the actual sort order of the report. You can sort by up to 4 different fields in order to arrange and total your tax information as desired. The default sort will be set automatically each time you modify the primary sort by.

Sort Order

Each section is defined by a sort order. Higher numbered sections are included as a separate group within the lower numbered section(s). For example if you sort by:

  1. State
  2. County
  3. City
  4. Tax Detail ID

With the above sort selection:

  1. All the rows will be grouped and ordered by state.
  2. All the rows within each state will be grouped and ordered by county.
  3. All the rows within each county will be grouped and ordered by city.
  4. All the rows within each city will be grouped and ordered by tax detail ID.

Selecting the check box here will cause an informational header to print each time that section's sort value changes. This information can help to make the reports more meaningful. It can also help make the reports much longer and fill them with information that you don't need.

Selecting the check box here will cause a totals line to print each time that section's sort value changes. This is typically the information for which you are running the report and therefore essential. However you may have no need for totals on some of the sections.

Try it

The best way to figure out how to set the report options is by trying the various options. Limit the report to a single day that contains just a sampling of the data you are looking for so that the report is shorter and prints more quickly. Modify the report section options and reprint the report. You will find the options specified on the report heading - this will allow you to select the best combination and re-select it for your actual report.
