Apply Naming Rules

The following applies to DynamicZip Build 73 and earlier. As of Build 74 place names are controlled by the use of the FipsCodes.txt File.

DynamicZip comes with default naming rules that are meant to keep your customer addresses standardized and identifiable for Tax Schedule Selection.

On the DynamicZip Setup window there is a checkbox for turning the naming rules feature on/off, called Use Naming Rules for New Cities & Counties. If this feature is turned off when the ZIPsales Import is run, then naming rules will not be applied to the addresses imported. At times, this may happen accidently (during new installs and/or upgrades from eariler DynamicZip builds), and we have added tools to help with appling the naming rules after the import for this reason.

The following steps will help you both determine what naming rules you have in place, and with applying those rules to your existing addresses in the DZ Zip Address table.

  1. Open the DynamicZip Setup window.
  2. Turn on the Use Naming Rules for New Cities & Counties option.
  3. Press the OK button to save and close the DynamicZip Setup window.
  4. Use the menu to open the DZ Naming Rules window (DynamicZip » Naming Rules).
  5. Press the print button on the DZ Naming Rules window to view the list of existing naming rules. This window can be used to change these rules as you see fit. Please see Naming Rules FAQ for more information.
  6. Use the menu to Apply the naming rules to existing addresses (DynamicZip » Apply Rules to Geocode Names).
  7. You will be given the option of applying the rules, or viewing a preview report of what the process will do. Select Report to view the changes before applying them.
  8. If the report looks correct, then repeat step 7.
  9. When given the option of applying the rules, select Update to apply them.
  10. You will be prompted with a message explaining that the Rate & Boundary Import must be run after this process completes. Press Yes.
  11. Once the process is complete, you can view the report to see what changes were made to the DZ Geocode Master table.
  12. Open the DZ Rate and Boundary Import window and continue by completing all of the steps on the Rate & Boundary Database Import Checklist.

After completing the above steps , all of your addresses will be standardized by the naming rules. As long as the Use Naming Rules for New Cities & Counties checkbox remains selected, all addresses will continue to be standardized and this process will not need to be performed again.
