Customer exempt in specific states only

Can a customer be exempt in one state while taxable in other states?

The DZ Customer Supplement window has a feature to allow the customers' to be taxable or exempt based on the state. This feature is the Allow Override by State option on the DZ Customer Supplement window.

To make a customer Taxable, except in California:

  1. Open the DZ Customer Supplement window.
  2. Select a the customer record.
  3. Set their Base Taxable Status to Taxable.
  4. Select the Allow Override by State checkbox.
  5. Type “CA” or use the lookup to select California in the State field.
  6. Change the Taxable Status for CA to Exempt.
  7. If you would like to use exemption certificate expiration dates, then please see Tax Certificate FAQ.
  8. Save the DZ Customer Supplement window.
  9. If you have more customers to setup in this way, then repeat steps 2 through 8 for those customers.
  10. Run the process to update the customers with your changes (Any addresses in CA will now be assigned Exempt Tax Schedule.
